Basic Client Assessment, and the Referral Process
|
We offer our students Academy accredited courses, and comprehensive tuition is given only on attendance - at present, we do not operate correspondence or distance-learning courses.
Counselling Skills Course:
Tutor: Stephen O'Brien
Successful Candidates will be awarded the Academy's Certificate of Merit in Generic Counselling Skills (internally assessed), and will be entitled to use the accreditation ‘Generic Counselling Skills’ (APSS) after their names.
Course already running - Next Intake TBA; please contact us.
(further details upon request.)
Join us on this 26-week course to build up your counselling skills for dealing with all kinds of personal and professional relationships, or with clients or the public. Therapists of all kinds (healers, mediums and psychics) can also benefit greatly from a firm understanding and experiential practice of the generic skills used in counselling, which can help them to form therapeutic alliances and to relate better to their clients - you can also use these micro-skills in personal interactions in your daily job or in a voluntary post.
The course is taught in Two Modules of 13 weeks each, and there is 52 hours of tutor contact. The theoretical aspects of the course run side-by-side with the process module, and you will be practising your counselling skills each week in supervised groups.
Among the topics covered will be:
Class Night and Fees:
Course already running, next intake: TBA - please contact us.
Course cost is £156: your £24 enrolment fee covers your first four classes; after this £24 is due each four weeks; in certain circumstances, weekly payments can be made .
Entry Requirements:
No formal qualifications are required to enrol on this foundation course in counselling skills, but you must be over eighteen years old and be willing to study, learn and interact in a group environment - plus you will need a willingness to share your experiences in the supervised counselling group process.
Certificate of Merit Accreditation:
Successful students will receive the Academy's internally assessed Certificate of Merit, and will be entitled to use the accreditation ‘Generic Counselling Skills’ (APSS) after their names.
Written Assessments:
Please note that although this is mainly an experiential course, students will be required to keep a weekly workbook to record their skills and learning progress.
Counselling as a Profession:
If you are intending to pursue a career in counselling, the university or college that will teach you your core therapeutic training will usually require you to hold a counselling skills certificate which meets national academic standards, proposed by professional bodies such as The British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). There is a significant difference between learning generic counselling skills and in being trained as a counsellor. If you wish to be a professional counsellor, training can currently take three to four years: please contact your nearest university, college or educational body. But if you do not wish to pursue counselling as a profession, but wish to extend your skills for use in any kind of workplace, or in any kind of therapeutic situation, or in private practice as a healer, medium or psychic - or even just to improve your family and friendship relationships - then our comprehensive experiential course could be just what you need or are looking for.
